Duterte wants Cabinet post for Cayetano

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Mayor Rodrigo Duterte believes that Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano should be given a  Cabinet post in the next administration if he wins as vice president in next year’s polls.

“This man (Cayetano) is full of ideas and he can be of good use to government if he would be given a seat in the Cabinet of the next administration,” he said.

Cayetano arrived here Friday night to meet with Duterte and guest in his weekly “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa” TV show where the mayor gave the senator a chance to expound further on his platform.

It would be a big waste of talent if Caye-tano would not be named to the Cabinet of the next administration, Duterte said.

Cayetano has been pushing for decentralization of the functions of government to other parts of the country as he believes that these should not be concentrated in Metro Manila.

He said that his idea runs similar to the concept of federalism that Duterte has been advocating.

“We have the same line of thought which we both wish to pursue,” he said.

Cayetano also came here to ask Duterte to run for president.

He has not given up on “courting” Duterte to give the presidency a run, especially since he has until Dec. 10 to substitute for Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) presidential candidate Martin Diño, he said.

Duterte is worth the wait as he has the best to offer among the presidential hopefuls in next year’s polls, Cayetano said.

Speculations that Duterte would seek the highest office in the land ended when he chose to seek   reelection as mayor of Davao City
