Former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano on Wednesday renewed his call on Filipinos to help each other especially during the holiday season, saying bayanihan is the key to the country’s recovery.
“Let’s use all our resources, our talent, even itong Facebook at ibang social media, hindi lang po para magbigay ng saya, na magbigay ng hope, but magbigay ng actual na tulong sa ating mga kababayan,” Cayetano said during the Sampung Libong Pag-asa episode on December 29, 2021 which was livestreamed on his official Facebook page.
(Let’s use all our resources, our talent, even Facebook and other social media platforms, not just to give happiness, to give hope, but to give actual help to our countrymen.)
“Hindi lang po ito dole-out (These are not dole-outs), we want to show you that this success story can be your success story, or even a better success story,” he added.
Wednesday’s episode of Sampung Libong Pag-asa announced 25 grocery and supermarket workers from Mendez, Cavite that have been affected by the pandemic.
Cayetano was accompanied by Mayor Frederick A. Vida, Vice Mayor Francisco “Cocoy” T. Mendoza and Municipal Engineer Ruel Vicedo in distributing the financial aid.
“Siguro tuwing may kalamidad, lalo na po y’ung malalakas na kalamidad, nare-realize natin kung gaano ka-importante ang ating pong mga nate-take for granted minsan – whether ‘yan ay restaurants, palengke, o mga supermarket,” Cayetano said, referring to typhoon Odette which left left P585.8 million in damage to infrastructure and P6 billion in damage to agriculture.
(Every time there is a disaster, especially a big disaster, we realize how important the things we take for granted are – whether it’s restaurants, markets, or supermarkets.)
Among the beneficiaries was Maricris Hayco, a grocery employee for eight years. A single parent, she plans to use the P10,000 to fund her child’s education, their needs, and to celebrate the New Year with her family.
Launched on May 1, the Sampung Libong Pag-asa program provides 10K Ayuda as financial assistance to select individuals affected by the pandemic.
To date, the Sampung Libong Pag-asa program has announced 14,635 beneficiaries.
