Cayetano’s ‘Sampung Libong Pag-asa’ goes to Caloocan

Former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and his allies in Congress are set to visit the historic city of Caloocan on Friday, July 23, to distribute cash aid to hundreds of residents as part of their weekly Sampung Libong Pag-Asa program.

One of the country’s biggest cities, Caloocan City’s local government unit has been leading in the distribution of financial assistance to residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In April, the city government was lauded for digitizing the distribution of cash aid amounting to P1.3 billion.

For this Friday’s event, 300 beneficiaries from the city will receive P10,000 each from Cayetano and his group while a total of 100 commenters chosen from the program’s Facebook livestream will also receive financial assistance.

Prior to the event, the names of some of the selected livestream commenters will be announced in a pre-show called the Ayuda Bayanihan Caravan which will be aired on Cayetano’s official FB page.

Last week, Cayetano visited Caloocan City to launch a local edition of the Sari-Sari Community, a financial assistance program for sari-sari store owners.

Around 100 sari-sari store owners from the city received P3,500 each as start-up capital for their small businesses.

Launched on May 1, the Sampung Libong Pag-asa campaign takes off from Cayetano’s economic recovery plan, which seeks to distribute cash aid to Filipino families to help them purchase their basic needs and revive their sources of income amid the ongoing pandemic.

The program has since distributed cash aid to more than 6,300 Filipinos, most of whom have invested a part of their aid to jumpstart their small businesses.
