In its December run, Cayetano in Action with Boy Abunda sheds light on diverse and relatable stories faced by many Filipinos, with sibling senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano providing valuable legal advice and moral lessons.
On the most recent episode that aired on December 3, 2023, the spotlight was on Marilou, a loan guarantor caught in a harrowing situation. Facing death threats due to her inability to repay a loan taken by a friend through an online lending app, Marilou said she was scared for her family’s safety.
“Hindi po ako makapagtrabaho nang maayos gawa po nitong inutang kong pera na hindi ko naman ginamit. Itunulong ko po [y’un] sa kumare ko. Hindi po ako nagsisi na tumulong ako, nagsisi po ako na sa maling tao ako tumulong,” she shared.
After hearing her story, Senator Kuya Alan said Marilou’s story had obvious legal and moral lessons.
“Sa usaping legal, may obligasyon at responsibilidad ka kasi ikaw ang nakipag-kontrata,” he said.
“Sa mga kababayan naman natin: ‘wag kayong mag-ga-guarantee ng loan unless siguradong-sigurado kayo. Kasi ‘pag nagka-problema, ikaw ang lalabas na may utang, hindi siya,” he added.
The Payong Kapatid segment highlighted the case of Mang Junior, who had been accused of issuing a death threat on a neighbor whom he had initially blamed for kicking his fighting rooster. Moreover, many bettors placed blame on him for the incident, asserting that it was the reason for their loss.
Providing sound advice to Mang Junior, Kuya Alan emphasized that the accusations against him were mere speculation due to the difficulty of substantiating the claims.
“Dito kasi, nilaban mo y’ung manok, at natalo sa sabong. Hindi mo alam kung mas magaling talaga y’ung kabila o kung may injury siya. Speculation y’ung mangyayari kasi alam mong nasipa, pero hindi mo pwedeng sabihin without proof na y’un ang kinatalo,” he said.
Regarding his ongoing issue with his neighbor, Ate Pia also offered her advice to Mang Junior, suggesting that the matter can be resolved amicably through humility.
“Ano ba ang gusto natin, to be right or to be happy? Kasi ‘pag mainit ho ang ulo natin, ilalaban mo y’ung tama ka kasi alam mo tama ka eh. Worth it po ba na makasuhan kayo?,” she said.
