True reform in the country will only happen if Filipinos first learn to align their personal lives — and the nation itself — with God’s purpose.
This was the message of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano during his ‘CIA 365 with Kuya Alan’ Facebook session on Tuesday, October 14, where he explained that while choosing good over evil is important, the deeper challenge lies in understanding God’s calling for each person and nation.
“Choose good over evil. But what good aligns with the purpose of God? Every day, napakarami nating decisions [na ginagawa]. Yes, always choose good, but always think na may purpose si Lord,” he said.
Cayetano said many Filipinos equate “doing good” with merely avoiding wrongdoing, when in fact, spiritual growth requires asking whether one’s choices truly serve God’s plan.
Using his own experience in public service as an example, the senator said that even if other paths may seem easier, one must follow where God has called him to serve.
“Alam kong meron akong calling assignment from Lord na purpose sa gobyerno,” he said.
“Why don’t I just do NGO work? Less stress, lahat kakampi mo. However, what if y’ung calling ko nga is in government, kung saan I have to accept na minsan may gulo, maraming may ayaw, tutuligsain ka, lalo if you do your job,” he added.
Cayetano said this same principle applies to national life, stressing that government reforms and anti-corruption drives will only succeed if the country itself is spiritually aligned with God’s will.
He added that being grateful in both blessings and trials is part of that alignment, since faith grows deeper through humility and thanksgiving.
“Pray na not only will we hear God’s voice, not only will we have repentance, restitution, not only will we have reform and renewal, hindi lang makulong yung mga korap, kundi ma-align natin ang Pilipinas sa purpose ni Lord sa ating bansa,” he said.
