Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Tuesday reminded barangay officials of Districts 1 and 2 of Taguig that a strong foundation is vital to the city’s long-term growth and development as he stressed the need for revival, renewal, and continuous improvement.
In his message during a fellowship with the barangay officials on December 23, 2025, Cayetano said the same principle applies whether one is building a house or a city. The foundation determines success.
“‘Pag tama y’ung pundasyon, madaling mag-renovate. ‘Pag mali y’ung pundasyon, wala. So, let’s rebuild it,” he said.
He added that development is not only about vision but also about process, noting Taguig’s gradual transformation.
“Ngayon, natututo ang mga Taguigeño how to run BGC. It wasn’t automatic. It took a lot of learning curve and everything,” he said.
Cayetano also emphasized the importance of values, the environment, and people-centered development in shaping the next generation.
“In one sense, nakaka-overwhelm what we can do in the next 25 years. But on the other hand, hindi ba exciting?” he said.
He encouraged barangay officials to remain committed despite challenges and assured them that their work matters.
“Marami pa kaming pagkukulang sa inyo… Ang barangay ang nasa grassroot, kayo pinaka inaasahan, kayo [ang may] pinaka maraming trabaho, pero kayo rin ang pinaka kaunti ang resources,” he said.
“Lahat ng hirap niyo sa barangay, ‘di nasasayang iyan. Isang katawan tayo and we recognize that,” he added.
Cayetano urged officials to see their roles as part of a broader mission of renewal that goes beyond infrastructure and focuses on people and community values.
“Let’s join each other in dreaming… think big, dream big. Ano kaya itsura ng Taguig sa 2050? At paano ba ang Taguig magiging inspiration?” he said.
He also spoke about personal growth and resilience, noting that challenges help strengthen individuals and communities.
“Ang ginto ‘pag hindi dumaan sa apoy, hindi ma-pu-purify… Let us welcome the refiner’s fire. Let us welcome [na kahit] minsan, masyado na matigas ang ating puso kaya binabasag ng kaunti para muling mabuo,” he said.
The senator also expressed his confidence in Taguig’s future as the city moves into its next phase of development.
“Ako’y naniniwala y’ung nakikita natin sa Taguig ngayon, patikim pa lang ng Panginoon. The best is yet to come,” he said.
