The number of sari-sari store owners nationwide who have received financial aid from the Sari-saring Pag-Asa program of former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and his allies reached 3,676 on September 30, 2021.
This after the names of 75 store owners from Laguna, Cavite, and Batangas chosen to receive P3,500 were revealed during the September 29 of the program.
The program featured the story of store owner Glaiza Kalaw from San Pablo, Laguna who was selected on September 28, 2021. She said she used the P3,500 to restock on essential goods such as instant noodles, instant coffee, and sachets of shampoo.
“Dito po kasi sa mga binili ko pong ito mas madaling paikutin po y’ung pera kasi ito po y’ung laging binibili ng mga tao dito po sa atin,” she added.
(With the items that I bought, it is much easier to multiply my earnings because these are the ones that are most often bought by the people in our barangay.)
From a daily profit of P100, she said is now able to earn P200 to P300 everyday.
Cayetano has always urged the beneficiaries to allot the P2,000 as additional capital and the remaining P1,500 for their families’ basic needs.
The Sari-saring Pag-Asa program complements the former Speaker’s Sampung Libong Pag-Asa program, which provides P10,000 each to select individuals from different sectors in the country to help them with their basic needs and in putting up their own small businesses amid the pandemic.
