Taguig 2nd District Rep. Maria Laarni “Lani” Cayetano on Friday lauded the Progressive Ladies’ League of the Philippines (PLLP) for its efforts to inspire and empower women amidst the pandemic.
Cayetano, who established the PLLP in 2004, said she is happy to see the group grow and help more women show their capabilities and rise above the challenges.
“Kami naman ay masaya dahil nakikita natin kung papaano itong mga kababaihan na ito, pinapakita nila y’ung kakayahan nila. Hindi sila nagpapatalo sa mga paghamon, sa mga kabiguan sa buhay, bagkus ginagamit nila itong inspirasyon para pagbutihin y’ung kanilang sarili at ipakita na may kakayahan sila bukod sa pagiging ina ng tahanan,” Cayetano said during the Sampung Libong Pag-asa program on November 5, 2021.
(We are happy to see these women share their strengths. They are not afraid to face challenges, accept losses, and use them as inspiration to improve themselves and show that they are capable of being more than mothers.)
Cayetano said these women eventually become community leaders who use the opportunities given to them to mentor other women.
“Kasi y’ung tulong na natanggap nila ay ginagamit nilang oportunidad na makatulong din sa kapwa. ‘Pag naging successful sila, ang gusto nila [ay] ma-experience din ito ng ibang mga kababaihan, kaya ang ginagawa nila nagme-mentor din sila ng kapwa babae,” she added.
(Because they use the help they received as an opportunity to help fellow women. Once they become successful, they want others to experience the same thing so they mentor them.)
She also said she is looking forward to seeing the group give opportunities to more women across the country and help them find their place in society.
“I hope na y’ung ilaw na sinimulan natin sa Taguig at sa Pateros ay kumalat dahil alam naman nating marami pang kababaihan all over the country ang naghahanap ng oportunidad din na makita y’ung place nila hindi lang sa kanilang tahanan kung hindi sa ating society,” Cayetano said.
(I hope that the light we started in Taguig and Pateros reaches other places because we all know that there are more women in the country who are looking for opportunities to find their place not only in their homes but also in society.)
On November 5, Cayetano, her husband former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, and their allies in the Balik sa Tamang Serbisyo (BTS) sa Kongreso distributed 10K Ayuda to 113 pre-selected beneficiaries, most of whom are homemakers from cities of Las Piñas, Pasay, Marikina, Pasig, Taguig, and municipality of Pateros, through the Sampung Libong Pag-asa program.
The program also distributed cash aid to around 35 commenters on the program’s Facebook livestream and 15 random names from the host’s tablet.
They were joined by PLLP Founder and President Evelyn Arago, PLLP Coordinator Alma Dogwe, and 13 guest beneficiaries.
To date, the Sampung Libong Pag-asa program has distributed cash aid to more than 13,000 beneficiaries across the country.
