Blood is thicker than water: Kuya Alan and Ate Pia help resolve dispute between relatives in CIA with BA

The Cayetanos have proven once again that settling disputes in person is better than filing cases in court.

In the 13th episode of the legal advice TV program ‘Cayetano in Action with Boy Abunda’ (CIA with BA), the sibling-senators helped mediate in the dispute between cousins Zenaida and Leonora who, for the first time in months, faced each other in the show’s ‘Case-2-Face’ segment.

After hearing their complaints, Senator Alan admitted that disputes among relatives can be challenging to resolve.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa tiwala ninyo, lalo na’t may dispute sa magkakamag-anak. Iniisip ng iba kapag magkamaganak, mas madali, pero actually mas mahirap dahil naghalo ang pagmamahal, galit, at inis sa isa’t isa,” he said.

On top of multiple issues that are rooted in the past, the meat of this case was Leonora’s assertion that Zenaida stabbed her with a knife during a heated confrontation in front of Zenaida’s house.

Leonora said the incident caused serious injury on her arm tendon and hampered her movement.

Zenaida has denied using a knife to cause injury on her cousin, but for Leonora, the only thing that matters to her is for Zenaida to admit her wrongdoing.

Despite the heated exchanges that followed, the fact that they are related by blood prevailed. The case wrapped up with Zenaida reaching out to Leonora, and they hugged and forgave each other.

“Wala na tayong sasabihin, OK na,” Senator Pia said, touched by the display of love and affection between the cousins.

To help them start anew in their relationship, Senator Alan pledged to help Leonora recover from her injury.

“Patuloy ang CIA with BA na magpagamot sa iyo o kung anuman ang support na kailangan ninyo at paano maitataguyod ang inyong pamilya at mapapagaling na ang kamay mo,” he said.

“Pero sana nga, simula na ito ng napakagandang relationship ninyo,” he added.

According to Senator Alan, CIA with BA is an “evolution” of “Compañero y Compañera,” a radio and television program hosted by their late father Senator Rene Cayetano which aired from 1997 to 2001.

“[CIA with BA] is a creative way of looking at legal issues [where we] give advice without confining it in legal [concepts] o pagiging bookish. Kasi katulad nga ng sinabi sa Bible, the law was made for man, not man made for the law,” he said in a Facebook livestream on March 27, 2023.
