Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday challenged fellow government officials in the City of Taguig to exercise their power in a way that fulfills their responsibility towards the people rather than emphasizing their possession of authority.
In a four-minute Facebook livestream after the celebration of Taguig’s 436th founding anniversary on April 24, 2023, Cayetano urged the leaders to always “do our best as if we’re doing it for God.”
“‘Pag kasi sinasabi ng politiko, ‘Panahon ko ngayon,’ para bang ang ine-emphasize ay y’ung power. Pero ang kailangan nating i-emphasize ay y’ung responsibility,” he said.
He cited some of the goals that the public officials must accomplish to ensure their people’s welfare.
“Napaganda ba y’ung mga scholarship ng ating mga kabataan? Do the senior citizens feel that they’re productive at lahat ng pangangailangan nila [ay napupunan]? Ang PWDs ba natin, mas naging accessible [para sa kanila] ang ating parks at facilities?” he said.
“Do the Taguigeños feel na kapag nagkasakit sila may matatakbuhan sila? Is our preventive care even better?” he continued.
The senator also asked Filipinos to offer prayers for the people of Taguig as they strive to build a community that leads “a culture that God wants for us, not the culture that we want.”
“That’s why po ang ginagamit natin sa Taguig ay ‘I Love Taguig.’ If we love our neighbor, if we love God, if you love your city, dapat mahalin ka rin pabalik ng inyong siyudad,” he said.
Cayetano expressed gratitude to the Lord for their “Probinsyudad” before thanking his wife Mayor Lani Cayetano, who led the celebration during the City Government’s flag ceremony together with the city’s officials.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa Diyos sa ating Probinsyudad, y’un pong magandang ugali ng probinsyano, y’un pong pagiging isang pamilya ng magkakapitbahay, pero y’ung modern amenities po ng isang siyudad,” he said.###
