Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano on Wednesday said the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing will proceed as scheduled despite recent developments in the chamber, insisting that ongoing efforts cannot stop the investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
In a Facebook Live on June 3, 2026, Cayetano said the committee would continue its work and hear testimonies as planned.
“Tomorrow, tuloy ang hearing ng Blue Ribbon Committee. I am still the legitimate, legal, moral Senate President of the Republic of the Philippines. There are still functioning committees. We have to hear the testimonies,” he said.
Cayetano said recent procedural moves in the Senate were intended to prevent the hearing from taking place.
“Talagang lahat ay ginagawa para ‘di matuloy ang sunod-sunod na hearing kung saan ang katotohanan at buong katotohanan ay lalabas. At mapapakita po sa inyo na gusto nilang i-control ang premises ng Senado at gusto po nilang hindi mag-hearing ang Blue Ribbon Committee bukas,” Cayetano said.
The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee is scheduled to resume its inquiry into alleged anomalies in flood control projects on Thursday, June 4.
Questions had been raised on Wednesday about whether the hearing would push through after a quorum was established and moves were made to reorganize committee assignments.
Despite these developments, Cayetano maintained that the Blue Ribbon Committee remains functional and that the hearing will continue as scheduled.
Prior to the scheduled hearing, the committee issued invitations to several resource persons and government agencies, including former House Speaker and Leyte First District Rep. Martin Romualdez, the 18 former Marines who were said to have corroborated earlier claims before the panel, and retired Sergeant Orly Guteza.
Also invited were representatives from the Office of the Ombudsman, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
Despite the developments in the Senate, Cayetano reiterated that the inquiry would proceed and emphasized the importance of continuing the investigation.
“Series of hearings ito. ‘Pag naumpisahan natin bukas, nandiyan na ang momentum. Ang daming impormasyon na kailangan maging malinaw sa atin lahat,” he said.
“You can try to stop us, but you will be stopping the Filipino people,” he added.###
