Cayetano prioritizes Filipinos’ urgent needs over Lacson’s tirades
Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Friday said he could answer Sen. Panfilo Lacson’s allegations point by point but is choosing to focus on the urgent needs of flood victims and other Filipinos.
“How can I talk about Taguig, the defense, and all of this, seeing that there’s so much suffering going on?” he said in a Facebook livestream on September 4, 2026.
Y’ung iba, hindi pa bumaba y’ung tubig, umuulan ulit,” he added.
He said these issues, along with health concerns, job insecurity, and repeated class interruptions due to heavy rains, deserve more urgent attention rather than Lacson’s false accusations involving projects in Cayetano’s home city Taguig City.
“Although I can answer him (Lacson) point by point… There are more important and urgent things like taking care of people with immediate needs,” he said.
Cayetano also said Lacson, having already brought his allegations and documents to the Office of the Ombudsman, should end the “trial by publicity” and allow the agency to do its job.
“Araw-araw for the last three months, parang striptease tapos wala namang tunay na ebidensya, panay po akusasyon,” he said.
He also criticized Lacson’s actions as a “witch hunt” and “demolition job.”
“Hinahanap lang lahat eh. Y’ung kahit wala, y’ung parang naghanap ka ng multo na wala doon, gumagawa ng storya,” he said.
Despite what seems to be malicious attacks against him, Cayetano assured the public that he is cooperating “one hundred percent” with the Ombudsman, but stressed that investigations must follow the proper process.
“No one is above the law. We welcome an honest-to-goodness, fair investigation,” he said.
He added that he is giving the Ombudsman the “benefit of the doubt” that it would investigate all the personalities it had identified in connection with alleged flood-control corruption.
“Ang daming announcement ng Office of the Ombudsman kung sino y’ung mga iniimbestigahan at kakasuhan. So benefit of the doubt na mahabol nila lahat ’yan,” he said.
Cayetano expressed confidence that the investigation would not only clear him but would eventually reveal Lacson’s motive for repeatedly attacking him.
“We are confident that once everything is submitted, we will not only be cleared, but makikita y’ung intention ni Senator Ping,” he said.

“How can I talk about Taguig, the defense, and all of this, seeing that there’s so much suffering going on?” aniya sa isang Facebook livestream noong September 4, 2026.
“Although I can answer him (Lacson) point by point… There are more important and urgent things like taking care of people with immediate needs,” diin ni Cayetano.
“Araw-araw for the last three months, parang striptease, tapos wala namang tunay na ebidensya, panay po akusasyon,” puna ni Cayetano.
“No one is above the law. We welcome an honest-to-goodness, fair investigation,” sabi niya.
So benefit of the doubt na mahabol nila lahat ’yan,” sabi niya.
“We are confident that once everything is submitted, we will not only be cleared, but makikita ’yung intention ni Senator Ping,” diin niya.
