Cayetano takes a Pokémon-style route to explain politics to young Filipinos

How do you explain the current national issues to young Filipinos who often encounter politics through short-form content and social media narratives?

Instead of technical language or institutional framing, Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano used a story-based structure that draws from Pokémon-style progression, blending pop culture storytelling with reflections on faith and leadership.

In a Facebook Live on Saturday, May 23, Cayetano presented the country’s political condition in phases that move like levels in a game world.

Mega Dream

Cayetano introduced the idea of a shared national aspiration that reflects long term goals for progress, stability, and development.

Perfect Order

He described this stage as an ideal condition where systems function properly and governance aligns with its intended purpose.

Ascended Heroes

This phase refers to leaders and citizens who step forward during difficult periods and take on responsibility in times of challenge.

Chaos Rising

This is a period of political tension and instability where competing interests, reform resistance, and disagreement over direction shape public life.

Cayetano’s framework suggests that political disorder is not driven by a single force but by overlapping pressures that shape how institutions and society respond to change over time.

His message also carried strong faith-based undertones, with Cayetano arguing that public life loses direction when separated from moral grounding and that leadership must be guided by principles beyond politics alone.

“If you take out God from the equation, we will truly be lost. Hindi pwedeng wala si God sa usapan. Let’s not abuse God. Let’s not use God. Let’s be used by God,” Cayetano said.###
