Cayetano urges faith leaders to build ‘unity in community’ through ‘3 Cs’
Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Thursday urged faith leaders to strengthen “unity in community” through three Cs — communication, communion, and commitment — amid political and religious differences.
Speaking at the 19th anniversary of the Councils of Bishops and Ministers Association of the Philippines Inc. (CBMAP) on September 24, Cayetano stressed the importance of keeping relationships intact even among people who do not always share the same views.
On communication, Cayetano noted that people today have more ways than ever to connect but often end up engaging only with those who already think like them.
“We have all these communication devices. We have all these YouTube channels, all these Facebook pages, all the vloggers. But are we communicating with each other? Or only with people who think alike?” he said.
The senator also emphasized community and communion, stressing that disagreements should not prevent people from maintaining relationships and working together.
“We can be on opposite sides. I’m not saying don’t criticize. Trabaho ninyo ring mag-criticize ‘pag mali. Ang point ko, walang hate. Kailangan may communion pa rin tayo,” he said.
On commitment, Cayetano lauded CBMAP for keeping its community of bishops and ministers together and sustaining dialogue despite differences.
“You are strategically placed in this world because there are works that only you can do,” he said.
“People need hope and you are instruments of hope,” he added.
Cayetano tied the three Cs to his broader call for “unity in community,” urging faith groups to help strengthen relationships and set an example for greater unity among Filipinos.
He called on faith communities to take the lead in fostering national unity through forgiveness, dialogue, and continued engagement.
“All throughout history, when God moves, there’s a coming together. And as we speak about it, as we forgive ourselves, forgive others, God will start putting Filipinos together,” he said.

Hinimok ni Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano ang mga lider ng pananampalataya na isulong ang “3 Cs” — communication, communion, at commitment — upang mapanatili ang pagkakaisa sa kabila ng pagkakaiba ng paniniwala at pananaw.
Sa kanyang talumpati sa 19th anniversary ng Councils of Bishops and Ministers Association of the Philippines Inc. (CBMAP) nitong September 24, sinabi ni Cayetano na mahalagang manatiling bukas ang komunikasyon at ugnayan ng mga tao kahit hindi sila magkakasundo sa lahat ng bagay.
Binigyang diin ng senador ang communication, o pakikipag-usap sa isa’t isa, lalo na’t maraming paraan ngayon para makipag-ugnayan ngunit hindi nangangahulugang tunay na nagkakausap ang mga tao.

Mahalaga rin aniya ang communion, o pagpapanatili ng ugnayan, kahit magkakaiba ang panig o pananaw ng mga tao.

Samantala, pinuri ni Cayetano ang CBMAP sa commitment o ang pagpapanatili ng samahan ng mga obispo at ministro at sa patuloy na pag-uusap sa kabila ng kanilang pagkakaiba.

Dahil dito, hinikayat ni Cayetano ang marami pang faith communities na gamitin ang kanilang papel sa pagpapalakas ng pagkakaisa ng mga Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng pagpapatawad, pakikipag-usap, at pagpapanatili ng ugnayan.
