Kuya Alan, Ate Pia extend aid and livelihood opportunities in Cordillera

Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano recently reached out to the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) to extend vital aid to over a thousand residents and communities in need.

During the three-day outreach activities, the sibling senators’ offices collaborated with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to offer livelihood and financial assistance to marginalized Filipinos.

On December 6, 2023, the offices of the senators, together with the DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), organized a ceremonial handover with officials of the Baguio Benguet Market Plaza Cooperative Multi-Purpose (BAMAPCOM) and the Sariling Sikap strawberry farmers.

Later in the afternoon, the awarding of livelihood assistance for these groups took place at the strawberry farm in La Trinidad, Benguet.

These sectors are members of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s Presyo, Trabaho, Kita/Kaayusan (PTK) program, a livelihood program he launched in 2013 for existing sectoral groups.

Myrna Aquino, an official of BAMAPCOM, said the assistance would be particularly beneficial for their members who recently fell victim to a fire.

“Masayang-masaya kami kasi makakatulong na naman kami sa mga miyembro namin. Imagine-in mo, nasunugan sila, at may pang-start naman sila. Kung hindi man, may pamasko sila sa mga kabuhayan nila,” she said.

The following days, the senators’ offices provided assistance to small business owners of the region in partnership with the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program and Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of DSWD. Thousands of residents benefited from the outreach initiative, thanking the senators for the support that they received.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako kay Senator Pia at Alan Cayetano, magagamit ko po ito para sa noche buena ng aming pamilya ngayong Pasko,” said Georgina Tangib of Upper Rock Quarry, Baguio City.

“Malaking tulong ito sa akin kasi idagdag ko ito sa aking puhunan para lumago ang aking maliit na negosyo. Maraming salamat po, Senator Alan at Senator Pia, sa blessing na inyong ibinigay,” said Wina Buyutan, a food and vegetable vendor from La Trinidad, Benguet.

The outreach activities conducted in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) were part of the Bayanihan Caravan led by Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano. In collaboration with various government agencies and local government units, the caravan aimed to reach marginalized communities nationwide, providing essential aid to Filipinos in need.
