Cayetano calls for faster Senate work, says Minority ready to do more
Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Wednesday said the Minority bloc is ready to take on more responsibilities as he called for the Senate to speed up its work amid continuous rains and other pressing problems affecting the country.
“There are some real issues, and I think all of us do want to work together to speed up the work,” he said during the Senate session on August 19, 2026. “Given not only the climate but the number of problems affecting the country, people are looking at the Senate. The Minority, of course, joins the Majority.”
Cayetano made the remarks as he completed the Minority bloc’s membership in several Senate committees, allowing the chamber to fill remaining committee posts.
He also said the Minority is “willing to up its load in terms of committees” and take on additional responsibilities to help the Senate address its workload and speed up its work.
Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian welcomed Cayetano’s initiative, noting that the two of them had earlier discussed ways to make the Senate’s workload more efficient.
“Thank you, Minority Leader, for the initiative to complete the members of our committees. And like you said, we had a conversation earlier on the various issues that will make the workload more efficient,” Gatchalian said.
Cayetano committed to continue discussions with the Senate leadership to resolve remaining issues and help the chamber move forward with its work.
“I commit to keep talking to our Majority Leader over the weekend and yourself so that we can resolve all issues by Monday,” he said.

Handang makipagtulungan ang Minority bloc sa Majority para mapabilis ang trabaho ng Senado at matugunan agad ang mga isyung nangangailangan ng madaliang aksyon.
Ayon kay Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, bukas din ang Minority na gampanan ang anumang karagdagang responsibilidad upang makatulong na matiyak ang mabilis na pagtugon ng Senado sa mga pangangailangan ng taumbayan.

Ginawa ni Cayetano ang pahayag matapos makumpleto ang mga kinatawan ng Minority bloc sa ilang komite ng Senado, na nagbibigay-daan para mapunan ang mga natitirang puwesto sa mga committee.
Malugod na tinanggap ni Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian ang inisyatiba ni Cayetano. Ayon kay Gatchalian, napag-usapan na rin nila ang mga paraan upang maging mas episyente ang workload ng Senado.

Nangako naman si Cayetano na ipagpapatuloy niya ang pakikipag-usap sa liderato ng Senado upang maresolba ang mga natitirang usapin at makausad ang trabaho ng kapulungan.
