Cayetano prays for protection, healing for the nation amid multiple crises
In a heartfelt prayer, Senator-judge Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday asked God to protect and heal the country as it faces multiple crises, including economic difficulties, threats to democracy, corruption, and questions of accountability.
“Lord, it is 2026 and we are faced with an economic crisis — not only the Philippines but of the whole world. We’re faced with a crisis in our democracy, facing many many corruption issues. We are faced with issues of accountability, from the President to the Vice President — all the way down to our barangays,” Cayetano said as he led the impeachment court in prayer on September 7, 2026.
He prayed this amid the many political issues the country is facing such as the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, the unresolved flood control scandal, the economic crisis brought about by the US-Iran conflict, high inflation, and many areas in the country still affected by successive disasters.
Cayetano also reflected on milestones in Philippine history, noting there had been significant developments occurring roughly every 40 years.
“In 1906, after almost 400 years of Spanish rule, You decreed that we shift our courts from Spanish to English. Exactly 40 years later, we left the Commonwealth of the United States of America to be an independent nation. Exactly 40 years later, we had the first peaceful people power revolution in the world,” he said.
“Lord, it seems like every 40 years you have freed us from something,” he added.
Anticipating another breakthrough for the nation this year, Cayetano prayed that Filipinos would not adopt the “slave mentality” of the Israelites in the Biblical account of their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land.
“The 7 to 14 day journey from slavery to conquerors turned out to be 40 years. It is said that this is so not only of disobedience, but because one generation refused to think like conquerors, refused to submit to You, but have that slave mentality. Even claiming in the desert that it is better to go back to Egypt because at least there is food and drink,” he said, referring to the Biblical story of Moses.
He also prayed for the integrity of the impeachment court amid many issues surrounding the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
“Lord, we pray that in 2026, You will make things clear to us despite our political persuasions. We pray that You protect the integrity of this court, not only inside this court, but external factors, even pressures targeted not only at both parties — at the prosecution and the defense — but also at the senator-judges,” Cayetano said.
“We lift up to you our nation, Lord God, and humble ourselves. We pray that you will heal this land,” he added.

Ipinanalangin niya ito sa gitna ng maraming isyung politikal na kinakaharap ng bansa sa ngayon tulad ng impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte, ang hindi pa nalulutas na flood control scandal, krisis sa ekonomiya dulot ng US-Iran conflict, mataas na presyo ng mga bilihin, at ang pagkakalubog ng iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa sa baha dahil sa sunod-sunod na kalamidad.

Habang inaasahan ang isa pang breakthrough sa bansa ngayong taon, nanalangin si Cayetano na hindi manatili ang mga Pilipino sa “slave mentality” tulad ng mga Israelita. Isinalaysay niya ito batay sa kwento sa Bibliya tungkol sa kanilang paglalakbay mula sa Ehipto patungo sa Lupang Pangako.
