Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Thursday called on the people of Taguig to remain committed to their vision and purpose, emphasizing that the city’s progress is rooted in unity and perseverance.
“Alagaan natin ang ating vision and purpose dahil sigurado at maganda ang ating future,” he said at the Women’s Month Caravan of the Taguig City Gender and Development (GAD) on March 27.
Cayetano reflected on Taguig’s journey from a struggling community to a thriving city.
“Ang pangarap lang natin noon, makuha ang titulo, magkaroon ng health center, college, at eskwelahan. Noon, kapag tiningnan natin ang Makati, Mandaluyong, Maynila, at Quezon City, parang ang layo nila sa atin,” he said.
Cayetano credited decades of perseverance for transforming Taguig into a model city for health, education, and other programs under the leadership of Mayor Lani Cayetano.
“Mayroon tayong Arca South, McKinley, BGC, Lakeshore, Fort Bonifacio, Veterans Center, at ngayon, nasa atin na rin ang EMBO. Ang ganda ng future natin. Huwag tayong papayag na may makakasama tayo na iba y’ung vision, tapos mawawala tayo,” he said.
The senator highlighted the importance of governance in sustaining progress, citing the history of TLC Park in Taguig.
He shared how, when Lani Cayetano became mayor, the land was still covered in debris and was the subject of disputes.
“Ang ginawa ni Lani noon, sabi niya, ‘Sandali, kung walang batas sa Taguig, magulo tayo.’ So ito, walang kakamkam nito. Aayusin natin ito,” he said.
The senator also encouraged the people of Taguig to protect and nurture their dreams while working together to secure the city’s future.
“Protect Taguig. Protect your vision. Bigay ng Panginoon ito, [kaya] tanggapin natin,” he said.###
