Senators Alan and Pia bring hope to vulnerable sectors in Cordillera communities

“Kaunti lamang po ang aming kinikita, pero marangal naming ginagawa ang aming trabaho. Napakalaking tulong po nito.”

Ronald Rabago, a barangay tanod in Alfonso Lista, Ifugao Province, expressed his gratitude to Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano for including him among the thousands of beneficiaries who received livelihood assistance in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) this week.

The distribution, held from May 13 to 15, 2024 in Ifugao Province, catered to 1,100 individuals from the municipalities of Mayoyao and Alfonso Lista, targeting the sectors of Farmers, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Solo Parents, Kababihan Sector, Person with Disabilities (PWDs), and small business owners.

This initiative was made possible through a partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) Program, in coordination with the local government of Mayoyao headed by Mayor Jimmy Padchanan Jr. and the local government of Alfonso Lista led by Mayor Edralin Alipio together with Vice Mayor Agapito Dominguez Jr.

“Ang aming bayan ay under state of calamity. Senador Alan at Pia, napakalaking tulong po nito sa mga residente ng Mayoyao. Taos puso po akong nagpapasalamat sa inyo,” Padchanan said as he recalled the hardships faced by the residents of his city due to the economic crisis and severe drought.

Continuing the social welfare mission around the region from May 16 to 17, the distribution reached Mountain Province, helping 1,000 residents from the towns of Bontoc and Bauko, focusing on the needs of indigent groups and small business owners.

Florence Fassong, an online seller from Mountain Province, also expressed her gratitude to the two senators. According to her, this is a huge help for her son’s medical condition.

“Malaking tulong po ito para sa pagbili ng maintenance ng aking anak. Sana tuloy-tuloy po ang inyong tulong sa mga katulad namin na may pinagdadaanan. Maraming salamat po,” she said.

With the cooperation of the local government of Bontoc led by Board Member Ezra Gomez and the local government of Bauko headed by Mayor Randolf Awisan, the initiative continued to provide much-needed aid.

“Malaking bagay po ito to my constituents at isang karangalan po ang pagpili ninyo sa aming municipality. Sana po ay magpatuloy pa ang ating serbisyo para sa mga tao,” Awisan said.

This month, the offices of the senators delivered assistance to several cities in the National Capital Region and some parts of the Central Visayas Region, helping vulnerable sectors struggling to meet their needs.

As the Cayetanos press on with their social mission, the sibling senators remain committed to providing immediate assistance to individuals and families affected by crises.
