Cayetano team brings relief to flood-hit families in Bacolor
The Emergency Response Team of Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano provided relief assistance to flood-affected families in Bacolor, Pampanga on Wednesday, August 19, as residents continued to stay in evacuation centers amid days of flooding.
The team distributed hundreds of hot meals to evacuees at Bacolor Integrated School where 204 families or 779 individuals were staying, and at Bacolor Mini Convention which housed 49 families or 220 individuals. Some evacuees have been staying in the designated centers for nine days.
The assistance was carried out in coordination with Bacolor Mayor Eduardo “Diman” Datu and former Mayor Atty. June Canlas, with Datu expressing gratitude for Cayetano’s continued support and assistance to the municipality even without being asked.
Municipal data showed that flooding has affected more than 3,000 families across Bacolor, with over 400 families currently staying in evacuation centers.
No casualties or injuries have been reported in the municipality after the local government implemented preemptive measures.
The Cayetano team’s relief effort came as the southwest monsoon, or habagat, continued to bring rains across Luzon. PAGASA said heavy rainfall from the monsoon is expected to persist across broad areas of Luzon and parts of the Visayas through Thursday, August 20.
Two low-pressure areas are also being monitored, including one outside and another inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Cayetano’s team is also carrying out relief operations in other flood-affected areas across Luzon, providing food and other assistance to communities affected by the continuing rains and flooding.
